The holidays are just around the corner, folks! Time to start thinking food if you haven't already! If you're wanting an easy food idea, but one that won't look or taste like it was easy, let us help you out! Our Farm sells Berkshire smoked half hams, and let me tell you, we love them! Really! Berkshire pork is known for it's fine marbling which gives it's meat an amazing moistness and flavor. The hams are top notch! I found a great recipe from the Pioneer Woman at thepioneerwoman.com that I must share with you, because our family loved it. My husband, who loves to eat by the way, thought it was awesome, if that counts for anything! So here goes:
Put ham in a pan with a little water in the bottom. Tent foil over pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes for every pound of ham.
After ham cooks 1 1/2-2 hours, brush with glaze, bake uncovered 20 more minutes. Glaze. Repeat until done, several more times. However often you wish.
3 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup mustard
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
Can of Dr. Pepper
*Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
That's it! Really easy. Take out of the oven and carve it up! I put a little glaze on the ham after I cut it up for a little more flavor. The Pioneer Woman scored her ham and did some fancy things with it before putting in the oven, so if that's your style, check it out on her website!
